When retirement from secondary teaching arrived for Trevor McAlister, the urge to teach, even after forty-five years, had not been extinguished. In 2007 he embarked on an extensive programme of researching Sydney's history, particularly where it linked to geography and extant buildings. On the basis of this he began leading walking tours right around the Sydney basin, teaching both locals and tourists more about the hidden history of his beloved city. After over a decade of these tours he had honed his material to a large body of digestible, easily understood mini-stories - that he began to realise would work extremely well in book format. Exploring Hidden Sydney is the final distillation of his research.
