Emma Stuart has been illustrating children's books professionally since 2001 and has illustrated more than 250 books for publishers, organisations and independent authors in Australia and overseas. Having lived in Melbourne, London, Berlin, Alice Springs and now regional Victoria, her work reflects a rich sense of place and storytelling.
Working across watercolour, acrylic, oils, pencil and ink, Emma combines traditional techniques with digital layering in Procreate and Photoshop to create illustrations full of warmth, texture and expressive characters.
Her work has received national and international recognition, including a Literary Titan Book Award in 2021. She was shortlisted for the Australian Speech Pathology Book of the Year in 2013 and was a finalist in the International Book Awards in 2014.
Alongside illustrating children's books, Emma regularly exhibits her landscape paintings. Peewee and the Tree (2024) was her first published picture book as both author and illustrator, followed by Big Mountain, Little Emu, to be released in September 2026.
