Henry the Flying Emu

Winner of the 2021 Australian Museum Eureka Prize is now available in a paperback version!

It’s a well known fact that emu’s can’t fly (they also can’t easily move backwards, hence their place on our Australian Coat of Arms!)

But author Niraj Lal and illustrator Adam Carruthers bring Henry the Emu to life as he learns about the science of orbiting and is determined to be the first emu to fly!

Dr Niraj (Nij) Lal is a researcher, writer and presenter based in Melbourne, with a PhD in physics from the University of Cambridge. He was named one of the ABCs Top 5 Scientists Under 40 in 2016, and his recent awards include the 2021 Celestino Eureka Prize for Promoting Understanding of Science and the 2022 Royal Societies of Australia and New Zealand Piasecki Prize for Outstanding Writing on Social Change. He’s currently the host of ABC Kids Podcast Imagine This with over 13 million listens.

Adam Carruthers is an illustrator and graphic designer. He lives in Altona with his wife, their four children and their little dog Chloe.

First published by Woodslane Press in 2021, this science packed book has just become available in paperback! Perfect for travel and little readers to hold!
